Paul Ito, PGA Director of Golf

Originally from Waipahu, Hawaii, Paul joined the team at Puakea in 2004. He first took up the game of golf while attending school at the University of Washington where he graduated with a degree in economics. A PGA member since 2002, Paul has worked at both public and private golf courses in Washington, Florida and Hawaii.

Paul believes instruction should be tailored to the individual student. Every golfer i have ever met wants to get better; my job as a teacher is to find a way to help them do so within the limits of their physical abilities and other time commitments.

Ron Castillo Jr., PGA Teaching Professional

Ron Castillo, Jr. was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and is a product of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association program. He attended the University of New Mexico, where he played on the golf team. Ronnie has won over a dozen Aloha Section PGA championships, has played in the National Club Professional Championship nine times, and was voted the Aloha Section PGA Player of the Year in 2002 and 2009.

Ron has been the lead instructor for Nike Golf camps on the Big Island of Hawaii and has been part of a team of golf professionals who travel around the world teaching golf schools at corporate golf outings.

Currently, the PGA Teaching Professional at the Puakea Golf Course, Ron gives private lessons as well as group lessons and clinics. His approach to helping students achieve their golf goals is to work on their strengths and help them understand how their swing works best and improve their overall fundamentals of the game.

Dave Werner, Head Professional

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Dave spent the next 10 years working in the environmental engineering field. He later moved on to pursue a career in golf, where he soon settled in as the Head Golf Professional at Hawk Valley Golf Club in southeastern Pennsylvania. When Hawk Valley was to be closed for development, the time was right for him and his wife to make the move to Kauai, a place they had always loved.

Currently an apprentice with the PGA of America, Dave strongly believes in keeping golf instruction as simple as possible. He believes that the best way for a student to improve his or her golf game is through a foundation of solid fundamentals and positive practice complimenting the individual’s capabilities.
